By James Kukstis jkukstis@wickedlocal.com Annual meeting brings together over 50 businesses Representatives from over 50 town and area businesses packed into the newly-renovated Green Harbor Golf Club on Thursday, Jan. 10, for the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting to celebrate the work the business group completed in 2018 and look forward to the new year. “This is the best turnout we’ve had for a Marshfield chamber meeting since I started working here,” Executive Director Lara Brait said. “I’m super excited, which means we must be doing something right.” Brait highlighted a number of initiatives, including Citizen of the Year, in which the chamber and the Marshfield Mariner partner to honor an individual who has given back significantly to the town; the publication of a Marshfield community guide for visitors to town; and holiday lights installed throughout Webster Square and on the Town Green for the first time in a decade. “Stuff does not magically happen,” Brait said. “It takes people, like the people in this room, to make things happen. And here at the Chamber we’re super proud to collaborate with people in town, business owners, non-profits, residents and just people that want to make Marshfield a better place.” Marshfield Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting 2019 The chamber’s internship program is entering its eighth year of placing Marshfield High School seniors in professional areas of interest. The program exposes students to what it’s like to work in these careers. Forty-two members of the class of 2018 participated in the program, a number chamber officials hope continues to rise. “It’s a great program, it’s growing every year,” Brait said. “It’s an amazing opportunity.” A large focus of the chamber that will continue into 2019 is its Webster Walkability initiative, which strives to make Webster Square and Library Plaza safer and easier to navigate for pedestrians.
