They include Children’s Dance Camp, Contemporary Ballet Choreography Workshop, and Rock Camp, all which run April 16-19 at SSC’s Ellison Center for the Arts at 64 St. George Street, Duxbury. At Children’s Dance Camp, students ages five through eight explore ballet movements, create their own ballet crafts, and perform an end of camp performance. Classes in Hip Hop, Jazz, and Yoga round out the week for a fun mini dance-camp experience. This camp runs from 9 am to 12 pm each day. Contemporary Ballet Choreography Workshop is a one-day student choreography workshop which provides students with a ballet technique class, followed by a choreography workshop where they learn different contemporary choreographic approaches, and work together to create a short piece to perform at the end of the day. On April 16 from 11 am to 2 pm, this workshop is open to students ages nine through twelve with at least two years of ballet technique. Students ages 13 and up, with at least four years of ballet technique training, may take their session of the workshop on April 18 from 11 am to 2 pm. Middle and high school singers, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, drummers and songwriters are invited to explore their inner rock star at April Vacation Rock Camp. Participants from across the South Shore join to form rock bands, learn the ropes, and receive individualized performance coaching. The program’s curriculum, developed by South Shore Conservatory’s team of professional musician/educators, touches on every aspect of performing in a real band. Workshops cover scales and soloing, rhythm playing, chords and inversions, licks and techniques, as well as effective listening and improvisation. Vocalists have the opportunity to experience being a both lead vocalist and backup singer. Band rehearsals focus on stage presence, interacting with an audience and overall sound development. From playing techniques to stage presence, SSC’s April Vacation Rock Camp presents a variety of workshops designed to turn the garage player into a confident performer. The program runs from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Friends and family are invited to a final performance at the end of the week.
