South Weymouth, MA (February 22, 2021) – It all began in 1991 when a small group of community members gathered together at the Hanover Mall to raise funds for Hospice of the South Shore. Now, 30 years later, South Shore Health’s Walk for Hospice has evolved into a fun-filled, large-scale family event at Weymouth High School! *On Saturday, June 12, 2021, participants can lace up their sneakers, help celebrate this milestone anniversary, and support compassionate end-of-life care for those coping with terminal illness. “We are so excited to celebrate 30 years of our Walk for Hospice,” said Gabe Mahoney,” Director of Hospice, Palliative and Supportive Care at South Shore Health. “Every year, the Walk for Hospice allows us to reconnect with families from years past. We can’t wait to resume this outdoor event, welcome those who are new to the Walk, and experience a wonderful day filled with special memories.” Held between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the Walk will begin at Weymouth High School. Participants can choose to walk a 1.5 mile course around South Shore Hospital and its surrounding neighborhoods or half-mile option at Weymouth High School. The Walk for Hospice is a vital way to support Hospice of the South Shore’s mission. Money raised helps provide care to those who otherwise cannot afford it. Last year alone, Hospice of the South Shore helped care for more than 770 patients in the region. There are many ways to become involved in the 30th annual Walk for Hospice! Signing up is easy! Visit southshorehealth.org/walk and form a team or register as an individual. Registration is free. Volunteers are welcome and businesses can become a corporate sponsor and inspire employees to join their team!
