Virtual Programs for January and February, 2023 Please see the programs flyer at the bottom of this email for more details. Our January classes start off with Dr. Stephen Anesi, from the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution, whose research on diseases of the eye is recognized world-wide. Dr. Anesi and his colleagues have identified and discovered treatment protocols for some very rare and challenging conditions. I owe my own continued eyesight to this group of amazing clinicians. Dr. Anesi has some particular things he wants to tell you about and also welcomes your questions. I sincerely hope you'll attend this session and invite everyone you know with eyesight concerns, from simple to complex, to be in the audience with you on January 19, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Our spotlight program on Thursday, January 26th is Chair Yoga with the very fun and very, very good instructor, Meg Vyas. I've attended many of Meg's classes and feel sure you'll find Meg's exercises to be enjoyable and doable. Yoga from a chair? Yes, please! Do you have an exercise group? If so, invite them to join you for this session, and you can do the exercises together, compliments of virtual programming and the sponsorship of the Friends of South Shore Health. On Thursday, February 16, the topic is Communicating with Dementia. We're thrilled to have Jennifer Hoadley and Eve Montague on line to give us their perspective on communicating with persons at various stages of their Alzheimer's disease. This is the third session in our Alzheimer's series and, in response to so many requests for help in how to communicate with loved ones with dementia, we're tapping into the most current research to bring you some ideas and ways to approach this difficult task. Not surprisingly, music opens an important portal for connecting with people and this is Eve's specialty. Share this email everyone you know with concerns about Alzheimer's to attend. And bring your questions, too. Our February spotlight program will be about Fun With Houseplants, February 23rd, featuring Chris Bell, the ornamental and exotic plants guru of Weston Nurseries. He'll present and demonstrate ways to amplify your indoor gardening and plant decorating with new ideas, new plant options, guidelines for planting decoratively, and how to recognize and deal with indoor plant problems. You'll come away with a new take on the joys of houseplant gardening, with a vast array of unusual, funky, interesting, dramatic and beneficial-to-your-health plantings. Bring your questions and your gardening friends. Questions for our speakers One of the benefits of our online (virtual) classes is the easy access to our skilled speakers in a format that invites everyone to ask questions and have every question answered. This is often hard to achieve during in-person programs so please, take advantage of this opportunity whether you ask verbally or use the chat function during the program. Either way, our speakers enjoy their direct contact with audience members and, in turn, audience members derive a lot of benefit from theirs and other people's questions. Timing conflicts For each of our programs, if the timing isn't perfect for you, sign up anyway and a recording of the program will be sent to you. You'll have the information to view at your leisure and to share with whomever you wish. It's all free so there's nothing to lose. Registration To sign up, please send an email with name, email address and phone number to either Barbara or Cathy as shown below. If the email link doesn't work as it should, just copy the underlined portion, put it in your email address box and send a request for the class(es) you want to register for. You may also want to put their names and email addresses into your address book for easier registration for future programs. Barbara Wahlstrom: bwahlstrom@southshorehealth.org or Cathy Moore: cmoore@southshorehealth.org WebX Our programs are broadcast nation-wide on WebX.
