A total of 118 students were awarded individual academic scholarships at Quincy College’s annual scholarship presentation at Quincy High School on October 8. “Scholarships can be a financial lifeline for our students, making it easier for them to focus on what matters most: their education,” said Quincy College President Dr. Richard DeCristofaro. “We’re delighted to be able to honor our students with well-deserved recognition for their academic achievements, and we’re deeply grateful for the many community members and organizations whose generous and enthusiastic support makes our scholarship program possible.” Among those sponsoring scholarships this year is the Quincy College Foundation, a new not-for-profit charitable organization established to expand advocacy and philanthropy on behalf of the college and its students. The Foundation – a successor to the Quincy College Trust – now serves as the college’s single philanthropic arm and will collaborate with administrative and academic leadership to establish, cultivate, and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with and solicit charitable contributions from current and prospective donors, alumni, and private foundations. Trustees will advocate for community support for student scholarships as well as student life programs (including athletics), faculty-focused programs, and select academic initiatives. “Reducing the financial burden of our students’ education through scholarship assistance helps assure their academic success,” said Paul Barbadoro, Chair of the Quincy College Foundation. “My fellow Foundation trustees and I look forward to identifying opportunities for broader and deeper levels of community support for Quincy College which, in turn, will enable us to better respond to the evolving needs of our students and the institution.” In addition to Barbadoro – an attorney, founding partner and managing director of Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro, PC – the trustees are: • Michael Bellotti, Treasurer of Norfolk County, who serves as Vice Chair; • Peter Thompson, President of P.I.T. Pipe, Inc., who serves as Secretary; • Dorothy (Dolly) DiPesa, Partner at Nash CPAs, LLC,, who serves as Treasurer; • Steven Dooner, Professor of English/Humanities at Quincy College, who serves as faculty representative; • Mark Brewster, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brewster Ambulance Service; • Sean Galvin, Partner and Chief Financial Officer of Galvin Construction Company; • Kenneth Quigley, Jr., President emeritus of Curry College. “This visionary team is committed to a level of institutional advancement that will assure both student success and the long-term vitality of Quincy College,” Dr. DeCristofaro said. “Each of our new trustees brings valuable attributes in relationship development, fundraising and stewardship, all of which are key to a new era in community engagement with and philanthropic support for Quincy College.”
