Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro, PC, a full-service legal firm based in Quincy, has made a $10,000 gift to the Quincy College Foundation to support additional scholarships for deserving students. “Quincy College has been an important institution for the city for almost 70 years and has helped so many people from all walks of life succeed,” said Paul Barbadoro, the firm’s founding partner and managing director. “It gives us great pleasure to make a contribution that will reward students for their academic achievement while helping defray the cost of their education.” Barbadoro, a Quincy native, is a Quincy College alumnus who later returned to campus as an adjunct faculty member and recently concluded a six-year term as Chair of the college’s Board of Governors. He was appointed late last year as Chair of the newly established Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “Paul Barbadoro’s long association with Quincy College has given him a unique perspective on its importance to our community,” said college President Dr. Richard DeCristofaro. “He understands that, for so many of our students, scholarships are a financial lifeline. This meaningful gift from Baker, Braverman & Barbadoro reflects a belief in our institution, our students, and in the value and life-changing impact of a college education.” As the state’s only municipal college (and one of only two in the United States), Quincy College receives no direct city or state funding for operations and relies primarily on revenue generated through enrollment. Since its founding in 1958, Quincy College has been true to its mission: focusing on academic achievement and excellence, fostering diversity, providing economic opportunity, promoting community involvement, and supporting lifelong learning. The college has evolved from a traditional two-year, single-campus community college to an institution of higher education offering three bachelor’s degrees, nursing and a variety of allied health programs, and industry-recognized excellence in biotechnology education. It strives to align curriculum offerings with the needs of regional employers so that students enjoy smooth pathways to fulfilling employment. In addition to its main campus in downtown Quincy, the college includes a satellite campus in Plymouth as well as ArLab, a state-of-the-art healthcare, biotechnology and life sciences career institute and workforce training facility in partnership with JVS Boston, located on Arlington Street in Boston’s South End.
